Montenegro defender Miodrag Dzudovic reportedly writes to UEFA opposing the ban handed to Wayne Rooney after his sending off in last month's Euro 2012 qualifier.

Montenegro defender Miodrag Dzudovic has reportedly written to UEFA opposing the three-match ban handed to Wayne Rooney for next year's European Championships.

Rooney kicked out at Dzudovic during last month's Euro 2012 qualifier in Podgorica and instantly saw red.

The 32-year-old has already said he would be willing to aid Rooney's appeal and has now signed a letter written by newspaper Soviet Sport.

"Miodrag would like to underline that he didn't notice any signs of aggression in Rooney's actions," the letter read. "In his opinion the England national team player was driven by emotions and it was an act of desperation rather than anger.

"The most important detail we ask to take notice of is Wayne Rooney's apology. He realised his fault and felt guilty. UEFA pay so much attention to 'Fair Play' principles but Wayne's behaviour is the brightest example of fairness.

"It is rare when a player leaves the field blaming no-one but himself after being sent off. In our opinion, Wayne Rooney shouldn't be banned even for a single game. We hope to be heard in UEFA."

The FA are waiting for a written explanation of the ban from UEFA before deciding whether or not to appeal.
