Wayne Rooney absent from training

Wayne Rooney misses Manchester United training ahead of their Champions League fixture against Benfica tomorrow evening.

Wayne Rooney was missing from Manchester United's training today ahead of their Champions League fixture against Benfica tomorrow evening.

No reason has been given for the 26-year-old's absence, although manager Sir Alex Ferguson is expected to shed light on the matter at a press conference this afternoon.

Brazilian midfielder Anderson and centre-back Jonny Evans also took no part in the session.

United currently lead their Champions League group, but opponents Benfica are second and level on points with the Premier League champions.
