Manchester United's Eric Bailly: 'I'm fortunate to play with Romelu Lukaku'

Bailly: 'I'm fortunate to play with Lukaku'

Manchester United defender Eric Bailly has backed Romelu Lukaku to continue "doing his job", despite criticism over his lack of goals.

Lukaku has failed to score in five appearances in all competitions but despite the forward allegedly been booed by the club's supporters, manager Jose Mourinho has described the Belgian international as "untouchable" from criticism.

The summer signing is expected to start when United face Benfica in the Champions League on Tuesday night, and Bailly has shown his support for his teammate by claiming that United are fortunate to have the player in their first-team squad.

The 23-year-old told reporters: "Romelu is an excellent player, I have played against him but now I'm fortunate to play in the same team.

"Everyone knows what Romelu is, he's scoring goals, and the most important thing is that he carries on doing his job like a good centre forward."

Before his recent goal drought, Lukaku had netted 11 goals from his first 10 appearances for United.
