Manchester City executive Patrick Vieira is confident that striker Carlos Tevez will stay at the club beyond the two years remaining on his contract.

Manchester City's football development executive Patrick Vieira has claimed that "everyone loves" striker Carlos Tevez and is hopeful that the Argentina international will sign a new contract.

The 28-year-old was expected to leave the Etihad Stadium during the summer after his well-publicised fall from grace following his refusal to warm up during a Champions League match last season.

"Carlos is a person everyone loves in the dressing room and hopefully he will stay," ESPN quotes Vieira as saying.

"We are talking about one of the best players of his generation. One of the best signings we made last year was to keep Carlos."

Tevez, who has netted four goals in four games for the Premier League champions, has two years left on his current deal.
