Manuel Pellegrini unsure of James Milner extension

Manuel Pellegrini concedes that he does not know if Manchester City's James Milner plans to stay at the club beyond the 2014-15 season.

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has admitted that he does not yet know if James Milner will sign a contract extension at Eastlands.

Milner's existing deal expires this summer but the 30-year-old is said to be reluctant to commit himself to fresh terms after growing frustrated with his wide role at the Etihad.

Arsenal and Liverpool are said to be weighing up Bosman moves, with the England international reportedly favouring the latter in the pursuit of first-team football.

The Chilean manager recently expressed his hope that Milner would sign the new deal, but he admits that he does not know what his plans are.

"James must decide what he wants to do," Pellegrini told a press conference. "That just belongs to him. I can't answer you.

"He asked the club to allow him to take the decision at the end of the season. He will do that in the right moment."

Milner has helped City to two Premier League titles, an FA Cup and a League Cup title since moving to the club five years ago.
