Man City transfer news: Sverre Nypan exit confirmed as six more players could leave before deadline

Nypan Man City exit confirmed and six more players could leave before deadline

Championship club Middlesbrough have completed the signing of highly-rated midfielder Sverre Nypan on loan from Manchester City.

The 18-year-old Norwegian joined the Citizens earlier this summer for a reported £12.5m from Rosenborg, putting pen to paper on a five-year contract at the Etihad Stadium.

However, Man City do not intend to immediately integrate Nypan into Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad and have instead opted to loan him out to gain valuable experience in English football in the 2025-26 season.

Despite interest from a host of clubs in England and abroad, Middlesbrough have won the race for the signature of Nypan, who becomes Rob Edwards’s fifth summer signing after Alfie Jones, Callum Brittain, Abdoulaye Kante and Sontje Hansen.

“It’s amazing, an amazing opportunity to get. Lovely club with amazing fans that I’m really looking forward to playing in front of,” Nypan told BoroLive.

“It’s a really traditional club with a good fanbase and English football is really big in Norway. It’s a really nice opportunity and I’m really looking forward to it.”

Nypan comments on summer of speculation after joining Middlesbrough on loan

Nypan added: “There was a lot of speculation (before joining Man City). Nowadays, everybody is writing about everything, so you can’t really keep anything private anymore but that’s how it is. I got a lot of hype, especially when the big teams came in.

“When one team wants you then the rival team also wants you - that’s how it is. But when City came, it was a really nice plan and also it’s a fantastic club, so I’m super grateful for the opportunity they have given me and I’m really happy with that.

“[A loan move] was the plan. Of course, getting into the [Man City] first team is really, really difficult. You need to play games when you’re at my age.

“Hopefully I can come to Middlesbrough and help the team as much as possible. I can’t wait to get into the team and get to know the players. Already, I have spoken to some of them and they’re really nice guys, so I’m really looking forward to it.”

Nypan is in contention to make his debut for Middlesbrough when they travel to Carrow Road to face Norwich City in the Championship on Saturday.

Man City could let six more players leave before transfer deadline

With a couple of weeks remaining in the summer transfer window, Guardiola is still keen to trim his squad before the September 1 deadline.

Speculation over the future of goalkeepers Ederson and Stefan Ortega is rife, with the former allegedly the subject of a €10m (£8.6m) offer from Galatasaray.

Should Man City agree to part ways with Ederson this summer, they are expected to step up their interest in Gianluigi Donnarumma, who is increasingly likely to leave Paris Saint-Germain following a fallout over his contract.

With either Ederson or Donnarumma potentially battling summer signing James Trafford for the number one spot at Man City this season, Ortega has subsequently slipped down the pecking order and is expected to leave in search of regular game time.

Meanwhile, Manuel Akanji could link up with Ederson at Galatasaray, who are understood to have approached Man City over signing the 30-year-old defender.

Claudio Echeverri is allegedly closing in on a loan move to Bayer Leverkusen, and Callum Doyle is set for a permanent switch to newly-promoted Championship side Wrexham, while the future of Kalvin Phillips remains up in the air, but an exit is likely now that he is deemed surplus to requirements.
