Man City 'optimistic about new Kompany deal'

Manchester City are reportedly optimistic that they can persuade Vincent Kompany to stay at the club for another year.

Citizens boss Pep Guardiola revealed earlier this week that the long-serving skipper's future will be determined in the summer.

According to The Times, though, a 12-month contract has already been offered to Kompany and City are keen for him to put pen to paper.

The Belgium international scored a 25-year screamer against Leicester City on Monday to move his side to within one win of the Premier League title.

City's director of football Txiki Begiristain is said to be in charge of discussions with the 33-year-old's representatives.
