Manchester City 'on verge of completing Ilkay Gundogan deal'

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan is reportedly on the verge of becoming Pep Guardiola's first signing as manager of Manchester City.

Manchester City will reportedly confirm the signing of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan in the near future.

The 25-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium recently, with a fee of around £20m understood to have been agreed between the two parties.

Official confirmation of the deal is expected imminently, according to BBC Sport, with Gundogan set to become the club's first signing under new boss Pep Guardiola.

The Germany international recently underwent surgery on a dislocated kneecap that will keep him out of Euro 2016 this summer and will also see him miss the start of the 2016-17 Premier League season.

However, City have decided to press ahead with the deal anyway, despite Gundogan also having missed the majority of the 2013-14 campaign with a back injury that saw him ruled out of Germany's victorious 2014 World Cup campaign.

Gundogan joined Dortmund from Nuremberg in 2011 and has since gone on to make more than 150 appearances for the club, helping them to a league and cup double in 2012 and the Champions League final a year later.
