Man City transfer news: Citizens 'close' to sending summer signing on loan to Championship club

Man City 'close' to sending summer signing on loan to Championship club

Manchester City are reportedly prepared to send summer signing Sverre Nypan on loan to Middlesbrough.

Man City confirmed Nypan's arrival last month after they fended off rival interest from a number of clubs, including Arsenal and Aston Villa.

Nypan put pen to paper on a five-year contract after the Citizens agreed a reported £12.5m deal with Norwegian side Rosenborg.

Man City are currently well-stocked in central midfield, with Pep Guardiola able to call upon Tijjani Reijnders, Nico Gonzalez, Mateo Kovacic and Ilkay Gundogan

As a result, the Citizens are set to send Nypan out on loan to gain regular playing time in his first season in English football.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Man City are on the verge of agreeing a deal with Championship side Middlesbrough.

The update claims that the two clubs are working on ironing out the final details for Nypan to join Boro on a season-long loan deal.

Nypan is understood to be 'happy' to continue his development at the Riverside Stadium.

The prospect will go into Rob Edwards's squad to compete with the likes of Hayden Hackney, Dan Barlaser, Abdoulaye Kante and Aidan Morris.

Is this a good move for Nypan?

Nypan would benefit from working with Guardiola and top-quality players at Man City on a day-to-day basis, but it would make little sense for him to waste a season on the fringes of the first-team squad.

A move to the Championship will ease Nypan into the demands of English football, even if the second-tier offers its own challenges.

The loan move offers Nypan the opportunity to become an important player in a team that will be looking to mount a promotion push this term.

If he can perform in the Championship, the highly-rated youngster should return to Man City as a better player than the one who is set to leave.
