Ilkay Gundogan 'set for new long-term Manchester City contract'

Gundogan 'set for new Man City deal'

Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan is reportedly keen to sign a new contract with the club amid reports linking him with a move to Ajax.

City are understood to be considering using the Germany international as a makeweight in any deal for in-demand midfielder Frenkie de Jong, who has been linked with some of Europe's top clubs.

Ajax would reportedly be open to that arrangement, but the Manchester Evening News claims that Gundogan wants to stay at the club and is ready to ignore interest from elsewhere in favour of signing a new deal at the Etihad Stadium.

Man City are happy to keep the 28-year-old and are now expected to begin talks over an extension to his current contract after the busy Christmas period.

Gundogan has scored 12 and assisted another 11 in his 74 appearances for City across all competitions.
