Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola suggests that Phil Foden will sign a new long-term contract at the Etihad Stadium, which will reportedly double his current salary.

Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Phil Foden remains a part of his long-term plans at Manchester City, amid reports that the midfielder is close to signing a new contract.

Foden will reportedly put pen to paper on a five-year deal worth £40,000 a week once he turns 18 on May 28, doubling the salary he currently earns.

The contract offer is seen as a reward for the England Under-17s World Cup winner's solid displays when called upon six times this term, most recently late on in the EFL Cup final win over Arsenal last weekend.

Asked if he was confident of tying down Foden, Guardiola told the assembled press: "He knows, his family and manager know that we would like to keep him with us for a long time. He has to grow up and become strong but there is huge quality there."

Foden made his first-team debut against Feyenoord three months ago after emerging from City's academy last year.
