Manchester City set a new Premier League record of 15 successive wins with a 4-0 thrashing of bottom-of-the-table Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium.

Manchester City set a new Premier League record of 15 successive wins with a 4-0 thrashing of bottom-of-the-table Swansea City this evening.

David Silva notched twice and Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Aguero were also on the scoresheet as Pep Guardiola's side surpassed the winning streak set by Arsenal between February and August 2002.

The Citizens had a few half-chances early on as Aguero shot into the side-netting and Lukasz Fabianski saved from Fernandinho, but they were nearly caught out by a Swansea suckerpunch on 10 minutes.

Jordan Ayew drifted in from the left flank, brushed off the challenge of Nicolas Otamendi and forced Ederson into a sprawling save which kept the ball out of the bottom corner.

That was as good as it got for the hosts, though, as City soon began to knock on the door, with Aguero coming close with a pair of headers.

Silva opened the scoring on 27 minutes when he opened up his bodily intelligently to angle Bernardo Silva's cross past Fabianski.

The visitors were two up before half time as De Bruyne's free kick from the left flank went untouched across the box and snuck inside the far post.

City were in full flow early in the second half and Silva should have doubled his tally earlier than he did when he wasted Aguero's through-pass on 48 minutes.

Raheem Sterling provided the Spaniard with an opportunity to make amends shortly after when he teed him up for his second goal.

Realistically, the points were safe well before City's third because Swansea rarely threatened to add to their dismal tally of five home league goals this season.

Roque Mesa did test Ederson's reflexes with a deflected shot from the edge of the box, while Otamendi cleared off the line from Ki Sung-Yueng's header, but only after Aguero had made it four without response for City.

The Argentine worked his way past two defenders and finished expertly into the bottom corner on 84 minutes.

The final whistle made City history-makers and ensured they remain 11 points clear at the top of a table which is still propped up by Swansea, who have now lost six of their nine league games in Wales this term.
