How Manchester City could line up against West Ham United

Sports Mole looks at how Manchester City could line up for Saturday's Premier League clash with West Ham United at the London Stadium.

Manchester City return to Premier League action on Saturday after getting their Champions League campaign off to a winning start in midweek.

The former champions make the trip to the London Stadium to take on West Ham United looking to record back-to-back top-flight wins and three successive victories in all competitions for the first time this season.

However, they take on a West Ham side brimming with confidence after pulling off one of the greatest comebacks in Premier League history at bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur last time out.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Pep Guardiola could line his side up for the contest.

Possible MNC XI vs. WHU

Out: Fernandinho (leg), Gabriel Jesus (thigh), Benjamin Mendy (muscle)
Doubtful: Kevin De Bruyne (thigh), Aymeric Laporte (muscle), Nathan Ake (groin)

Man City could welcome PFA Player of the Year Kevin De Bruyne back into the fold for this match, with the playmaker expected to return to training ahead of the trip to London.

De Bruyne has missed City's last two games with a thigh problem he sustained while on international duty with Belgium and, while he will be closely monitored in the buildup to this match, he is likely to be thrown straight back into the starting lineup if deemed fit.

Aymeric Laporte is also due back in training ahead of this one, although the fact that he has only featured once in the Premier League all season could mean that Guardiola is a little more cautious about putting him straight back in.

City could find themselves short at the back, though, with Benjamin Mendy and Fernandinho definitely sidelined - the latter for around a month after sustaining a leg injury in the closing stages of Wednesday's win over Porto.

Nathan Ake could help to ease those troubles despite being forced to pull out of Wednesday's game on the morning of the match due to a tight groin.

Eric Garcia and John Stones provide further options at centre-back, while the fit-again Oleksandr Zinchenko could be chosen at left-back following Joao Cancelo's less-than-convincing defending for Porto's goal in midweek.

Phil Foden is pushing for a recall to the starting XI, while Sergio Aguero should lead the line once again in Gabriel Jesus's continued absence and may be joined by Riyad Mahrez despite Ferran Torres's fine solo effort against Porto.

Raheem Sterling will arguably be the first name on the teamsheet given his record against the Hammers - he has scored six goals and created five more in his last six Premier League starts against West Ham, including hitting a hat-trick in the corresponding fixture last season.
