Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri is believed to have pulled out of the France squad due to a recurring injury.
The 24-year-old is expected to return to England to receive treatment after being diagnosed with tendonitis in his knee.
"I have a problem in my knee since the Villarreal match. It's an old issue which is resurfacing," Nasri told French TV, according to the Daily Mail.
A spokesman from the French Football Association said: "The hospital examination as well as complementary examinations confirmed the inflammation and as a result it was plainly clear the player would not be fit to play."
The former Arsenal player was left on the bench during City's 3-2 win over Queens Park Rangers at the weekend.
