Sagna determined to rival Zabaleta

Out-of-favour Manchester City defender Bacary Sagna has revealed that he hopes to enjoy a more productive second season at Eastlands.

The right-back joined City on a Bosman last summer after his Arsenal contract expired but struggled to displace Pablo Zabaleta, starting just eight Premier League games.

Sagna started Friday's 4-1 friendly defeat to Real Madrid, and with Zabaleta still on holiday due to the Copa America, the Frenchman hopes to capitalise on his advantage.

"Last year I was focused until the end," the 32-year-old told the Manchester Evening News.

"Hopefully I will get the chance to play and give the maximum 100 per cent. At the moment I am working hard to prove myself so I can bring something to the team."

Sagna has two years to run on his contract.
