Report: Carlo Ancelotti on shortlist to replace Man City's Manuel Pellegrini

Manchester City reportedly put Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti on a shortlist of managers to potentially replace Manuel Pellegrini.

The Manchester City hierarchy have reportedly placed Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti on a list of managers to potentially replace Manuel Pellegrini.

The Chilean coach's future at the Etihad Stadium is in doubt, with some reports claiming that he has until the end of the season to prove that he deserves to keep his job.

The Premier League champions are in danger of being knocked out of the Champions League at the last-16 stage following a first-leg 2-1 defeat to Barcelona last week.

The club's campaign to retain their league title also looks in doubt following Sunday's 2-1 loss to Liverpool at Anfield, which has left them five points behind leaders Chelsea, who have a game in hand.

According to the Daily Star, Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone is City's number one target should they sack Pellegrini, but members within the club's board are admirers of Ancelotti and will consider an approach.

The Italian's experience in the Premier League, where he won the double with Chelsea, makes him a favourable candidate, while Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola is also believed to be on the shortlist.
