Manuel Pellegrini unconcerned by Pep Guardiola speculation

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini insists that he is unconcerned by rumours linking Pep Guardiola with a summer move to the Etihad Stadium.

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has insisted that he is paying no attention to the ongoing speculation that Pep Guardiola could take over at the club next season.

Guardiola's contract with current club Bayern Munich expires at the end of the season, and a number of Europe's top teams have been linked with a move for the Spaniard next summer.

City are understood to be long-term admirers of the former Barcelona boss and among the front-runners to clinch his signature should he become available, but Pellegrini is focusing solely on his own job.

"We don't know what Pep will do next season. There are rumours, speculation about what he wants to do. I think Pep is one of the best coaches in the world so if he doesn't continue at Bayern, maybe a lot of teams can try to have him manage their team," he told reporters.

"In my case, I don't have any pressure about that. Maybe there are a lot of rumours - not only this season but going back to the other seasons - but the only pressure I feel is the pressure I put on myself to win.

"When you have experience and manage so many big clubs you know with every result that is not the result the club wants, the media will start with different rumours about different things, but if you are worried about that it's impossible to work in a big team."

City currently sit third in the Premier League table, three points off surprise leaders Leicester City.
