Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has apologised after he was seen calling Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini a "f****** old c**t".

Pardew was unhappy because Cheick Tiote's goal was disallowed during their Premier League match that City subsequently went on to win 2-0 to climb to the top of the table.

In response to the decision, Pardew apparently shouted "shut your noise, you f*****g old c**t". In his post-match press conference, the Magpies boss apologised for his comments.

"I hear that what I said has been picked up a bit and I apologise for my comments. It was a heat of the moment thing - words that we always have as managers, to a degree. I've apologised and I'm fortunate he's accepted it," The Mirror quotes Pardew as saying.

When asked how he felt regarding the outburst, Pellegrini claimed that it was not "important".

"It is nothing important. I don't know what he said. I know some managers think they will get an advantage if they always complain about decisions," said the Chilean.

Newcastle are eighth in the league.
