Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini insists that Carlos Tevez must learn from last season's off-field mistakes and show him and the club some respect.

Roberto Mancini is not convinced he can change Carlos Tevez's attitude but has insisted that he will demand that the striker respect both him and club Manchester City.

Tevez famously went AWOL for four months last season after a high-profile bust-up with his Italian boss.

The Argentine allegedly refused to come on as a substitute during City's Champions League group-stage loss to Bayern Munich.

He did return to feature in the club's successful Premier League title run-in and has announced his intention to remain at the Etihad Stadium after reports heavily linked him with a move to AC Milan.

With Tevez set to stay into next season, Mancini hopes that he has learnt from his behaviour and shows both him and the club more respect in the future.

"I don't think I can change Carlos. I just want respect, for me and for the club," Mancini said in the Daily Mail.

"We don't play and work because we earn some money - we start to play when we are young because we like football.

"I hope Carlos understands that maybe he made some mistakes."

Tevez joined City from cross-city rivals Manchester United in 2009.
