Manchester City are awaiting news on the extent of the groin injury picked up by Fernando in yesterday's home defeat against Stoke City.
The 27-year-old midfielder, who joined the Premier League champions from Porto earlier this summer, was replaced by Fernandinho in the first half of the 1-0 loss.
"Fernando has a muscle problem in his groin," Goal.com quotes Manuel Pellegrini as saying. "We will see [on Sunday] with the doctor how strong it is."
City return to league action in two weeks when they take on Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
