Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has claimed that the players will select the team captain in Vincent Kompany's absence.
The Belgian defender, who got injured on five occasions last season, is expected to be out until at least September after undergoing groin surgery in May.
As Kompany currently holds the captain's armband, Guardiola is leaving it up to the players to pick their skipper, but has suggested Joe Hart or Yaya Toure.
"The players have to choose the captain," the Spaniard told reporters in a press conference. "They have to decide. If Vincent Kompany is not playing because he is injured, or my decision, it is not a big problem.
"We have a lot of experience. Joe, Yaya. I am not in the locker room, I am not in the meetings. They have to choose themselves, they know each other better than me. That is their responsibility."
Meanwhile, City's new manager has enforced a ban on all junk food and will not allow overweight players to train with the team.
