Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy has been charged with a further count of rape.

Mendy, who was suspended by Man City following the charges in August 2021, pleaded not guilty last week to nine sexual offences.

However, following a hearing at Chester Crown Court on Wednesday, reporting restrictions have now been lifted, which banned media reporting on the latest charge.

As a result of the latest allegation, the Frenchman has been charged with eight counts of rape, one count of sexual assault and one count of attempted rape against seven young women from October 2018 to August 2021.

The 27-year-old, who joined Manchester City in 2017, is yet to enter a plea regarding the latest charge.

Mendy will face trial before a jury on July 25 alongside his co-defendant Louis Saha Matturie, who has also entered not guilty pleas, denying eight counts of rape and four counts of sexual assault in relation to eight young women.

Both Mendy and Matturie remain on bail ahead of next month's trial.
