Gareth Barry keen to get back into England fold

Gareth Barry says that he is not giving up on playing for England in the future following his loan switch from Manchester City to Everton.

Everton midfielder Gareth Barry has claimed that getting a recall to the England squad in time for the 2014 World Cup would be a "bonus".

The 32-year-old has slipped out of the Three Lions side due to injury and falling down the rankings at the Etihad stadium.

"Every footballer wants to feature in a World Cup and I'm no different," the Liverpool Echo quotes Barry as saying.

"Realistically, though, there's a lot of hard work between where I am now and being in the squad to go to Brazil.

"I didn't make the move to Everton to help my England career, but that would be a massive bonus at this stage. I would have to play well for Everton for that to happen."

Barry, who signed for the Toffees on a season-long loan deal from Manchester City in the summer, has 53 England caps to his name.
