Vincent Kompany "so proud" of Manchester City team after League Cup triumph

Kompany "so proud" of Man City team

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has expressed his pride after helping his side to win the League Cup for the second time in the space of three years.

The Citizens overcame Liverpool in a penalty shootout at Wembley this evening after Philippe Coutinho's late strike had cancelled out Fernandinho's 49th-minute opener.

Kompany suggested that his side should have wrapped the game up before extra time, with Raheem Sterling missing two particularly good chances, but also stressed that Liverpool's role in the match should not be forgotten.

"There was so much emotion in this final. There were so many missed chances and when it get to penalties I think both teams have to be remembered. I am just so happy for the club and so proud," Kompany told Sky Sports News.

Wilfredo Caballero proved to be the hero for City in the shootout, saving penalties from Lucas Leiva, Coutinho and Adam Lallana before Yaya Toure scored the winning spot kick.
