Man City's Vincent Kompany ruled out of Belgium's friendlies with calf injury

Kompany ruled out of Belgium friendlies

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has been ruled out of Belgium's international friendlies against Italy and Spain with a calf injury.

The centre-back joined up with the Red Devils after playing in City's goalless draw against Aston Villa at the weekend.

However, the 29-year-old has since left the squad, while midfielder Steven Defour, who plays for Anderlecht, has been called into the set-up by head coach Marc Wilmots.

Last month, Kompany represented his country in their Euro 2016 qualifiers, despite City manager Manuel Pellegrini claiming that he was not fit enough to play.

The extent of the defender's current calf injury is not yet known.
