Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola unsure of Riyad Mahrez ankle injury extent

Pep Guardiola is waiting to discover the severity of Riyad Mahrez's ankle injury after the new Manchester City recruit was taken off against Bayern Munich.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has been left sweating over Riyad Mahrez's fitness after the Algeria winger suffered an ankle injury on Saturday.

The £60m signing from Leicester City had to be substituted in the 28th minute of Man City's 3-2 win over Bayern at the International Champions Cup due to the issue.

Guardiola tried to play down the matter, however, as he hoped that "maybe it is not a problem", before switching the subject to how the players have done on the club's United States tour.

"I don't know [the extent]. I wasn't in the locker room," Guardiola told reporters. "It was his ankle. We will see, maybe it is not a problem.

"I'm concerned for many things, for injured players, players who are still not here but I am so satisfied for what all of the guys on the tour have done."

Man City open the curtain on the domestic season with the Community Shield encounter with Chelsea next Sunday before getting their Premier League campaign underway at Arsenal a week later.
