Manchester City team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Birmingham City

Sports Mole rounds up all of Manchester City's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Sunday's FA Cup third-round clash with Birmingham City.

Manchester City will endeavour to record their second domestic cup victory in a matter of days when they welcome Championship outfit Birmingham City to the Etihad Stadium for Sunday's FA Cup third-round tie.

Pep Guardiola's men eased past bitter rivals Manchester United 2-0 in Wednesday's EFL Cup semi-final, and the holders will now face Tottenham Hotspur in April's final for the chance to claim a fourth successive triumph in the competition.

However, Man City's defence of their 2018-19 FA Cup crown ended at the hands of Arsenal in last season's semi-finals, with the Gunners eventually going on to win the competition after beating Guardiola's men 2-0 at Wembley.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up all of Man City's latest injury and suspension news ahead Sunday's third-round clash with Birmingham.

Ederson

Status: Out
Type of injury: Coronavirus
Possible return date: Unknown

Ederson confirmed on social media that he was self-isolating following Man City's coronavirus outbreak. Guardiola's number one played no part on Wednesday and is not expected to be back for this one either.

Ferran Torres

Status: Out
Type of injury: Coronavirus
Possible return date: Unknown

As is the case with Ederson, Ferran Torres was another player affected by the Citizens' COVID-19 cluster, and the Spanish attacker will sit this one out as he self-isolates.

Tommy Doyle

Status: Out
Type of injury: Coronavirus
Possible return date: Unknown

Midfield protege Tommy Doyle also returned a positive coronavirus test a few days ago and is undergoing a period of quarantine, meaning that the 19-year-old will not feature here.

Eric Garcia

Status: Out
Type of injury: Coronavirus
Possible return date: Unknown

Wantaway defender Eric Garcia was already sidelined with a muscular problem before contracting coronavirus, but the Spaniard is rumoured to be on the verge of a move to Barcelona anyway.

Aymeric Laporte

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: January 10 (vs. Birmingham City)

Man City's absentee crisis does not end with coronavirus-related issues as Aymeric Laporte missed out the Old Trafford win with a hamstring problem. The centre-back is unlikely to be cleared for the visit of Birmingham either.

Nathan Ake

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Fitness
Possible return date: January 6 (vs. Birmingham City)

Nathan Ake did not turn out for the Citizens against Chelsea or Man United due to a muscular problem, and it is currently unclear when the Dutch defender could make his return to the pitch, but it will probably not be this weekend.

Scott Carson

Status: Out
Type of injury: Coronavirus
Possible return date: Unknown

Veteran goalkeeper Scott Carson was another victim of the Etihad coronavirus outbreak, leaving Zack Steffen and James Trafford as City's only fit shot-stoppers.

Cole Palmer

Status: Out
Type of injury: Coronavirus
Possible return date: Unknown

Doyle's fellow midfield prospect Cole Palmer was confirmed to have tested positive for coronavirus just hours before the EFL Cup semi-final at Old Trafford, and the 18-year-old will not get the chance to earn some valuable minutes this weekend.

MANCHESTER CITY'S SUSPENSION LIST

Man City have no players suspended for the visit of Birmingham.
