Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at how Manchester City could line up for Tuesday's Champions League playoff first leg with Real Madrid.

Manchester City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne will be bidding for a slice of history when the Citizens host Real Madrid in Tuesday's Champions League playoff first leg.

The Belgium international is likely to be reinstated to the starting XI after scoring the winner against Leyton Orient in Saturday's 2-1 FA Cup triumph, and he has already had a direct hand in eight goals versus Real in the Champions League.

De Bruyne has scored four of his own and set up four more in that time, and no player has ever registered as many as nine direct contributions against Real Madrid in the Champions League.

The 33-year-old should be one of three attackers reinstated to Pep Guardiola's first XI, as Phil Foden and Erling Haaland also prepare for recalls, likely over Jack Grealish and Omar Marmoush.

Savinho may be one of the few surviving starters from the trip to Leyton Orient, as Mateo Kovacic and Bernardo Silva are primed to replace Ilkay Gundogan and Nico Gonzalez, the latter of whom suffered an injury on his debut over the weekend.

Further back, Ruben Dias completed 45 minutes of the victory at Leyton Orient on his return from injury, potentially with an eye on Tuesday's first leg, and the Portugal international may very well keep his place over John Stones.

However, Manuel Akanji, Josko Gvardiol and makeshift right-back Matheus Nunes should all return to the backline, as might Ederson, who has missed City's last two matches with a minor knock.

Oscar Bobb (leg), Nathan Ake (muscle) and Jeremy Doku (unspecified) have all trained ahead of the first leg, but ACL victim Rodri remains out.

Manchester City possible starting lineup:
Ederson; Nunes, Akanji, Dias, Gvardiol; Silva, Kovacic; Foden, De Bruyne, Savinho; Haaland
