Manchester City defender Nathan Ake will miss Wednesday's Champions League semi-final second leg against Real Madrid at the Etihad Stadium.

Manchester City defender Nathan Ake will miss Wednesday's Champions League semi-final second leg against Real Madrid at the Etihad Stadium due to injury.

The Dutchman sustained a hamstring problem against Leeds United earlier this month and has since missed the last two matches in all competitions, including the 1-1 first-leg draw with Los Blancos last week.

Pep Guardiola revealed prior to Man City's 3-0 Premier League victory at Everton on Sunday that Ake was feeling "much better", providing Citizens supporters with hope that the 28-year-old could recover in time for the home encounter with Real Marid.

However, the Catalan boss has confirmed that Wednesday's second leg will come too soon for Ake, who is City's only player in the treatment room at present.

Asked for an update on the fitness of his squad at a pre-match press conference on Tuesday, Guardiola replied: "Except Nathan, everyone is fit."

Guardiola has also confirmed that Kevin De Bruyne is fully fit to play in the second leg after watching on as an unused substitute in Sunday's win over Everton, a result that helped City move four points clear at the top of the Premier League and on the cusp of retaining the title.

De Bruyne has stepped up for the big occasions several times for the Citizens and the Belgian scored a stunning equaliser to help rescue a 1-1 first-leg draw at the Santiago Bernabeu last week.

Man City enter a defining period in their season as they seek to end the campaign with three trophies, although Guardiola has insisted that success of failure to win the treble will not impact his "exceptional" legacy at the Etihad.

The Citizens are competing in the Champions League semi-finals for the third successive year and suffered a heartbreaking 6-5 aggregate defeat after extra time to Real Madrid at this stage of last season's competition.

A thrilling 4-3 victory was recorded in the first leg of that tie at the Etihad, and Guardiola has admitted that he would take a similar scoreline if it meant his side would progress to next month's final against either Inter Milan or AC Milan.

"If we had the game last year [4-3] I'd sign up for it right now, but I don't think it will happen," said Guardiola.

"I don't know [how the game will pan out]. Of course we are in the latter stages every season. I don't want luck tomorrow, the team who deserves to win, hopefully wins. Doesn't matter which one, hopefully it is us.

"The players have to make an incredible performance to beat Madrid. I have an idea to be more different, more fluid in attack. It will happen naturally at home, we feel free, doesn't matter, we go. That's a feeling we have. Be ourselves, the rest I play 10 semi-finals for the Champions League, I lost seven. I know that feeling, there are many things you can't control.

"Hopefully you can see tomorrow. I cannot tell you, otherwise Carlo [Ancelotti] will hear. I'm not overthinking tomorrow, don't worry guys. Nothing different to the past, just to be more fluid and play a bit better.

Man City enter Wednesday's contest in exceptional form having put together a 22-game unbeaten run across all competitions, while they have not lost any of their last 25 home matches in the Champions League.
