Pep Guardiola: 'Manchester City not favourites for Champions League'

Guardiola: 'We are not favourites for CL'

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has insisted that his side are not amongst the favourites to win the Champions League this season.

City made it all the way to the semi-finals of Europe's premier club competition last term and suggested that they can compete with the world's best teams when they beat Barcelona 3-1 in their last Champions League outing.

However, Guardiola expects it to be a long-term mission to catch the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona and insists that he is focused on Wednesday's group game against Borussia Monchengladbach.

"They are a really good team and they have a good mentality. We will see tomorrow whether we will win," he told reporters.

"We were so happy with beating Barcelona but it was just one game. We cannot be considered favourites to win the tournament. Barca and Real Madrid are there every year. I am trying to do a lot in the next few years to be there."

City are currently second in Group C and know that victory in Germany would seal their place in the knockout rounds with a game to spare.
