Gael Clichy: 'Manchester City should have done better in Champions League'

Clichy: 'We should have done better in CL'

Manchester City full-back Gael Clichy has admitted that his side have underachieved during the Champions League group stages.

A 1-1 draw at home to Celtic this evening ensured that City ended the group stage with only two wins from six matches, although they still reached the last 16 as runners-up with a game to spare.

City were arguably fortunate to come away with a point against a Celtic side that saw a strong penalty appeal turned down when Clichy pulled back Patrick Roberts, who had earlier opened the scoring against his parent club.

"Patrick Roberts is a quality player, we are happy he is doing well on loan. It was a good game, we are through and can look forward to the next game," he told reporters.

"We haven't been lucky in the last few games with refereeing decisions but perhaps tonight we were. A team like us should expect to win more than two games in the group."

City have now won just one of their last six home games in all competitions.
