How Manchester City could line up against Shakhtar Donetsk

Ahead of the Champions League clash between Manchester City and Shakhtar Donetsk, Sports Mole looks at how Pep Guardiola's team could line up at the Etihad Stadium.

Manchester City head into Wednesday's Champions League encounter with Shakhtar Donetsk looking to secure their third successive victory in the group stages.

Pep Guardiola witnessed his side suffer defeat at home to Lyon at the start of the campaign, but wins over Hoffenheim and Shakhtar have put the Premier League side in control of Group F.

City also head into the game at the Etihad Stadium having put together a 10-match unbeaten streak, a period which has seen just two goals conceded.

Guardiola has a number of selection dilemmas with the Manchester derby to come at the weekend, and here Sports Mole looks at how his team could line up against the Ukrainian outfit.

Out: Kevin De Bruyne (knee), Claudio Bravo (Achilles), Eliaquim Mangala (knee)
Doubtful: Ilkay Gundogan (thigh), Nicolas Otamendi (muscular)

Guardiola is unlikely to take any risks with either Nicolas Otamendi or Ilkay Gundogan, who were both absent from the squad which faced Southampton at the weekend.

The Spaniard will also contemplate resting a number of his star men with Manchester United just around the corner, and that could see Kyle Walker, Aymeric Laporte, Bernardo Silva, Leroy Sane and Sergio Aguero all starting on the bench.

Danilo may be handed another start at right-back as he continues to build his match fitness after injury, while Vincent Kompany could replace Laporte who has already made 15 starts for City this season.

Oleksandr Zinchenko - a Ukraine international - may feature at left-back instead of Benjamin Mendy, and Fabian Delph could be drafted into the middle of the pitch.

Riyad Mahrez and Gabriel Jesus will also expect to start, having remained as unused substitutes against the Saints on Sunday afternoon.
