Carlos Tevez's appearance at The Open as a caddie for Andres Romero is dubbed as "absolute madness" by Royal and Ancient Club committee chairman Jim McArthur

Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez has been at the centre of more controversy this week after being criticised for caddying at the Open Championship last weekend.

The 28-year-old, who has been linked with a summer move to AC Milan in recent weeks, appeared at Royal Lytham on Sunday as a caddie for Argentina pro Andres Romero.

Royal and Ancient Club committee chairman Jim McArthur said: "He never put the bag down, even when he was standing on the green. It's just absolute madness.

"I think we need to to look at this particular case. We normally get a list of caddies at the start of the week."

Meanwhile, R&A chief executive Peter Dawson took a different viewpoint by claiming that Tevez's surprise appearance was "not a bad thing".
