Malaga extend winless run in La Liga with Deportivo La Coruna draw

Malaga's winless run in La Liga is stretched to six games with a 1-1 draw at home to struggling Deportivo La Coruna.

Malaga extended their winless run in La Liga to six games thanks to a 1-1 draw at home to struggling Deportivo La Coruna.

The hosts almost saw their strong start rewarded with a goal on eight minutes, but Juanmi's effort from close range came back off the post following a free kick.

Despite being pinned back during the opening stages, Deportivo came into their own midway through the half as Lucas Perez led a swift counter-attack before firing straight at Carlos Kameni.

The away side threatened again before the break as they took control of the match, but this time Oriol Riera headed a cross inches wide of the post.

With the game goalless at half time, Malaga opened the scoring just two minutes after the restart as Nordin Amrabat fired in a low drive from 20 yards after showing quick feet on the edge of the box.

However, a spirited Deportivo got themselves level with an hour on the clock when Riera rose highest to head in Perez's deep free kick.

Malaga pushed hard for a winner during the final 15 minutes, with Samuel Garcia and Recio both coming close, though it was Deportivo who nearly snatched the spoils at the death as Perez's deflected free kick cannoned off the bottom of the post.
