Mainz move into fifth with victory over Nuremberg

Mainz 05 see off Nuremberg 2-1 at home to move into fifth place in the Bundesliga.

Mainz 05 have moved into fifth place in the Bundesliga thanks to a 2-1 victory over Nuremberg.

Nicolai Muller broke the deadlock in the 12th minute by slipping in between two players and slotting past Peter Rakovsky.

Their lead was doubled nine minutes later by Andreas Ivanschitz. The Austrian rounded the keeper before rolling into an empty net.

Per Nilsson restored hope for the visitors five minutes before half-time. The Swedish centre-back headed home from Hiroshi Kiyotake's free kick.

Jan Kirchoff thought that he had restored the home side's two-goal advantage in the 67th minute, only to be denied by the linesman's flag.

In the end, Thomas Tuchel's men ran out comfortable winners.
