Macclesfield Town march on with Aldershot Town win

Macclesfield Town have moved into second place in the Conference Premier after Danny Whitaker's second-half goal gave them a 1-0 victory over Aldershot Town at the Recreation Ground.

Adriano Moke's curling 20-yard effort was saved by Phil Smith in the Aldershot goal on six minutes, and Glenn Wilson headed narrowly over from a corner in the only chances of an otherwise quiet first half.

However, the encounter burst into life after the restart as Dan Holman and Denny Johnstone traded chances, before Whitaker stroked home the rebound from Matthew Barnes-Homer's strike on 55 minutes.

Holman came close to rescuing a point for his side, but saw his left-footed shot cannon back off the crossbar with just five minutes to go as the Silkmen held on for three important points.
