Bordeaux held by struggling Lorient

Bordeaux's European aspirations receive a setback as they can only draw with relegation-threatened Lorient.

Lorient have boosted their hopes of survival in Ligue 1 and dented Bordeaux quest for a European place by holding Willy Sagnol's side to a goalless draw.

Les Girondins started on the front foot, with Henri Saivet, Gregory Sertic and Diego Rolan all threatening a breakthrough inside the opening minutes.

Midway through the half, Bordeaux were denied the lead when Wahbi Khazri received a pass from Cedric Yambere, but saw his effort saved by Benjamin Lecomte.

With the interval approaching, Lorient started to pose their own threat in attack as Jordan Ayew's shot was tipped away at point-blank range by Cedric Carrasso.

The home side, who beat Marseille 5-3 at the Stade Velodrome last weekend, almost broke the deadlock 10 minutes into the second half when Wesley Lautoa had an effort saved by the Bordeaux stopper,

On 65 minutes, Rolan was denied a goal by Lecomte's save after a tantalising cross from ex-Bayern Munich star Diego Contento.

The Uruguayan missed another chance in the last minute of the game when he dragged a shot wide from Issac Thelin's pass as Bordeaux were forced to settle for a point.
