Liverpool's Brendan Rodgers: 'Luis Suarez has been treated like a son'

Manager Brendan Rodgers hails Liverpool for the loyalty that they have shown to wantaway centre-forward Luis Suarez.

Manager Brendan Rodgers has insisted that Luis Suarez has been treated "like a son" during his stint with Liverpool.

The Uruguayan international is eager to leave Anfield this summer, with both Arsenal and Real Madrid reported to be interested in his services.

However, having served suspensions after being found guilty of racism and biting an opponent during his two-and-a-half years in England, Rodgers has suggested that the striker should show more loyalty towards his employers who have stood by him.

"He's very much a Liverpool player and over the course of the next couple of weeks we've got to get him up to speed," Rodgers told reporters.

"The support he has received from the supporters and the people of the city of Liverpool has been unrivalled. In this period of time he's missed a lot of games for the club through various reasons. The people have stood by him, like a son and really looked after him.

"Whatever happens in the coming weeks that will be in his mind because it's something you can never forget."

Suarez came off the bench to set up a goal during today's 2-0 win over Melbourne Victory in Australia.
