Brendan Rodgers rejects Raheem Sterling speculation

Rodgers rejects Sterling speculation

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has refuted speculation that Raheem Sterling is to be offered a contract extension amid reported interest from Real Madrid.

Reports on Thursday had suggested that Liverpool were keen to tie Sterling - whose existing contract expires in 2018 - to another new deal, having only signed one in January 2013.

It is reportedly a preemptive move to thwart the Spanish giants, who are rumoured to be offering to quadruple the youngster's wages should he join the Blancos.

Asked about a potential extension, Rodgers told reporters: "That's the first I've heard of it.

"He's a young player who'll be looked after here at the club, but you know more than me if that's the case."

The 19-year-old winger was a driving force for the Anfield club last season, scoring 10 times to help the Reds finish second in the Premier League.
