Brendan Rodgers: 'Liverpool can still attract big players'

Despite losing some of their key players over the last 12 months, Brendan Rodgers says that Liverpool can still attract big names to the club.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has insisted that "players are always going to want" to join the club.

The last two summers have seen the Merseysiders part with key players Luis Suarez and Raheem Sterling, while captain Steven Gerrard has also departed for the MLS.

However, Rodgers has stressed that Anfield is still a big lure for players.

"Players are always going to want to come to Liverpool. I've said it before and I've said it many times. I think it's such an iconic club, it's a great club," he told reporters in the Far East.

"The challenge for us is to get back in among the top teams in this division and hopefully that continues to attract players."

Recent rumours have suggested that the Reds are on the verge of signing Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke.
