Rodgers eager for Gerrard stay

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed that he wants Steve Gerrard to sign a long-term deal at the club.

The 32-year-old Reds captain has 16 months left to run on his current terms at Anfield.

"Steven is vital to us and I recognise that," Rodgers is quoted as saying by The Sun.

"I know he has 16 months left on his contract but I want him to go beyond his current deal for this club and his team. There is absolutely no question about that."

Gerrard has gone on to make over 600 appearances for Liverpool following his debut in 1998.
