Rodgers confident of Sterling stay

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has played down suggestions that contract negotiations with Raheem Sterling have stalled.

Reports claimed earlier this week that the 17-year-old was holding out for a new £50,000-per-week deal at Anfield.

"I think it will be pretty straightforward," said Rodgers. "That will be resolved. There won't be an issue there.

"I think Raheem himself, his representatives and his family know he is at the best club he could ever be at in terms of his development short and long-term."

Sterling, who made his England debut in Wednesday's 4-2 defeat against Sweden, has eight months left on his current deal.
