Napoli are reportedly close to offering Belgian winger Dries Mertens a new long-term deal to remain at the club.
The 28-year-old was thought to be the subject of transfer interest from Liverpool over the summer, but any prospect of a move could now be gone with talk of a contract extension in the offing for the Belgium international.
Football Italia has suggested that the player's representatives recently met with the club to discuss what could potentially turn out to be an offer of a new deal until 2020 for the winger.
Mertens has made 62 appearances for Napoli since joining from PSV Eindhoven in 2013.
