Saudi Pro League club Al-Ahli are considering 'bidding' for Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez in the summer transfer window.
The 26-year-old joined the Reds from Benfica in the summer of 2022, signed by former Reds boss Jurgen Klopp.
Nunez was far from prolific in terms of scoring in his first two seasons but still managed 33 goals in all competitions. Under Arne Slot, he found game time hard to come by and finished last season with only seven games to his name, with most of his appearances coming from the bench.
The Uruguay international started just one of Liverpool's final 22 games in the Premier League in 2024-25, and his situation is unlikely to improve despite the tragic death of Diogo Jota.
The forward has been reportedly linked with a move to Napoli, but the move did not materialise. The interest in Nunez is strong from several Saudi Pro League clubs, and a new contender has joined the race to sign him.
Nunez heading for Anfield exit?
According to a report from The Times, mega-rich Saudi Pro League club Al-Ahli are the latest team to show interest in Nunez, and they could submit an official bid in the coming days.
Al-Ahli are owned by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund and are one of the wealthiest clubs in the world - signing players like Ivan Toney, Riyad Mahrez, Allan Saint-Maximin and Roberto Firmino in recent years - and they can easily match Liverpool's asking price for Nunez.
Firmino, the former Reds striker, left the club last week to sign for Qatari side Al Sadd SC, and there is a possibility that Nunez could replace him.
Who else could leave Liverpool?
The Reds have bolstered their attacking options this summer by signing Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz.
The Premier League champions have reportedly agreed a deal to sell Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich, and they are likely to reinvest in the squad, with Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak being linked with a move.
Federico Chiesa, who joined last summer from Juventus, failed to make an impact, and he could be offloaded; the Italian did not travel on Liverpool’s tour to Hong Kong and Japan and looks almost certain to depart.
Harvey Elliott and Tyler Morton could also be sold to raise significant sums through their outgoings.
