Liverpool sign 13-year-old Irish defender

Liverpool have signed Irish teenager Conor Masterson for a fee of €1m (£800,000) from Lucan United.

The 13-year-old defender will join the Reds on his 16th birthday under the deal.

"We spotted Conor playing at Lucan United and we were impressed. We're looking forward to his 16th birthday, welcoming him to the club and nurturing his talent," said academy director Frank McParland.

It is believed that Liverpool fought off competition from Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur for Masterson's signature.
