Liverpool ready to offer Origi a new contract?

Liverpool are reportedly set to offer back-up striker Divock Origi a new contract as a reward for his persistence.

The Belgium international, who was on the brink of joining Wolverhampton Wanderers in a £22m deal last summer, has started just three Premier League games for the Reds this season.

Origi has played a key role from the bench in tight matches, however, most memorably scoring an injury-time winner in December's 1-0 victory over Merseyside rivals Everton.

Football Insider reports that Jurgen Klopp has been blown away by the 23-year-old's attitude and application, and the German wants to keep him at Anfield beyond the end of the season, when it was widely expected that he would be granted a move away.

Despite being on the periphery, Origi now appears to be ahead of Xherdan Shaqiri and Daniel Sturridge in the pecking order as he has appeared in nine of Liverpool's last 11 games, including a couple of starts in that run.
