Liverpool plan shock Dimitar Berbatov swoop

Liverpool have emerged as shock contenders to sign Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov.

The Bulgarian is expected to leave Old Trafford in the summer after making only five Premier League appearances for the Red Devils last season.

Reds boss Kenny Dalglish could now tempt the 31-year-old to Anfield with the offer of more first-team football, according to Caughtoffside.com.

Despite signing Berbatov from Tottenham Hotspur for £30m, United may be prepared to let the forward leave for around £5m.
