Liverpool transfer news: Kostas Tsimikas Roma stance revealed after 'approach' made

Liverpool left-back Kostas Tsimikas wants to move to AS Roma in the summer transfer window, according to a report. 

The 29-year-old, affectionately called the 'Greek Scouser' by Reds fans, joined Liverpool in the summer of 2020, and has made 115 appearances in all competitions. 

Tsimikas has largely played as a deputy for Andy Robertson, and he is expected to further drop down the pecking order following the arrival of Milos Kerkez. 

The former Olympiacos defender did not make the matchday squad for Liverpool's 4-0 win over AFC Bournemouth, and he is not expected to be in the squad to face Newcastle United on Monday night either. 

With his contract set to expire at the end of the 2026-27 season, and given his peripheral role, he is seeking an exit from Anfield to play regularly, and a move to Italy could be on the cards.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Roma have made an approach to sign the Reds left-back on an initial loan deal. 

While Tsimikas prefers to join the Giallorossi, Liverpool insist of selling him permanently. There is no shortage of suitors, with two more clubs have shown interest in signing him before the deadline day. 

Liverpool paid £11.3m to sign the defender, and it will not be hard to expect the Premier League side to fork out a deal where they can expect a profit. 

While Tsimikas has never scored for the Reds, he has set up 18 goals, and played his part in the 2023-24 EFL Cup win where he provided the assist for Virgil van Dijk's winner against Chelsea to help the club lift the trophy.

Robertson is also on the decline, but given his quality, experience, and leadership ability, he can still make valuable contributions both on and off the pitch. 

Even though Tsimikas can be a reliable back-up option, it makes sense for Liverpool to cash in on him now, as he would have really struggled to get minutes unless there is an injury issue elsewhere. 

Tsimikas is almost certain to depart, and there could be more exodus, with Harvey Elliott facing an uncertain future at Anfield.
