Jamie Carragher: 'Liverpool may feel relieved if Luis Suarez offers come in'

Jamie Carragher believes that Liverpool may feel "relieved" if they receive big-money offers for Luis Suarez following his alleged bite.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes that the Merseyside club may feel "relieved" should they receive a bid for prolific striker Luis Suarez this summer.

The 27-year-old is facing punishment from FIFA if he is found guilty of biting the shoulder of Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini during Uruguay's 1-0 win in Natal at the World Cup on Tuesday.

While Carragher believes that Liverpool tamed Suarez's attitude last season with the help of psychiatrist Dr Steve Peters, the 36-year-old believes that the striker will 'never change'.

Carragher wrote in the Daily Mail: "With Liverpool, his situation is even more complicated. Those who are saying the club should make a stand and drum him out have no grasp on reality because no business would get shot of an £80m asset for nothing or a reduced fee.

"Now you get the feeling that Liverpool might actually be relieved if Barcelona or Real come in with a bid that triggers a move. If a lucrative offer arrives in the next few weeks, I am convinced Suarez will be playing his football somewhere else next season.

"He has been a magnificent player and that is why Liverpool supporters have staunchly stood by him but even they believe now that this latest controversy is something the club can do without."

Reports have claimed that Spanish giants Barcelona are prepared to offer the Reds a player-plus-cash deal to sign the controversial frontman this summer.
