Liverpool head coach Arne Slot reveals that Trent Alexander-Arnold could be in the squad for Sunday's Premier League contest against Leicester City.

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has revealed that Trent Alexander-Arnold could be in the squad for Sunday's Premier League contest against relegation-threatened Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.

The England international has been on the sidelines with an ankle injury since March 11, missing his side's last three Premier League matches, and at one stage, it was feared that his season was in doubt.

However, the 26-year-old has made excellent progress in his recovery, and Slot has revealed that he could potentially be in the squad for the game against Leicester, as Liverpool look to move closer to winning the Premier League title, with the team 13 points clear of second-placed Arsenal at the top of the table with only six games left to play.

"He has worked so hard to be back already now, and the moment he is on the pitch he shows me what a great football player he is and how much he is involved in us trying to achieve our goals this season," Slot told reporters during his press conference.

"He has worked so hard during the whole season and now during his rehab to be back with the team again. The fans of Liverpool, everyone who watches football for the last five, six or seven years, knows he is an incredible full-back, has been an incredible full-back for this football club and let's see what the future brings.

Alexander-Arnold could return for Liverpool against Leicester

"[He is] not [ready] to start but if things go well today and tomorrow, he might – might – be on the bench. But definitely not to start because he is out for five-and-a-half weeks and this is today probably his first session with the team.

"It was Wednesday I think he did parts of the team session. So he's not able to start but hopefully he can be able to join us because for Conor [Bradley], he has been out for a long time so for him to play 90 isn't easy as well. So it would be nice if Trent is with us during the weekend, yes."

The right-back has made 39 appearances for Liverpool during the 2024-25 campaign, scoring three goals and registering seven assists.

In the Premier League, Alexander-Arnold has two goals and six assists in 28 appearances this term, but he is seemingly in the latter stages of his time at Anfield, with his contract due to expire at the end of June.

Will Alexander-Arnold join Real Madrid on a free transfer?

Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk have signed new contracts at Liverpool, but that is not the case for Alexander-Arnold, who was always the most likely to leave out of the trio, and the expectation is that he will join Real Madrid on a free transfer.

Alexander-Arnold is close friends with Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham, and even though Liverpool give him everything that he wants in terms of challenging for major trophies and playing at the highest level, the lure of Los Blancos is strong, and at this stage, it is difficult to imagine a new contract being penned at Anfield.
